She agrees with us that Metroid didn’t get nearly enough love! So let’s spread Metroid love here! :)
New submition! Artwork by Benett Holgerson who sent us some of his great metroid art to our tumblr metroid 25th anniversary project!
Minetroid Is a Metroid themed texturepack being developed by Dr_Tizzle for the popular indie game Minecraft. It incorporates elements from all the Metroid games, from the fiery cavens of Norfair to the Dachoras on the surface of Zebes.
Mikesword thought MC could use a little spirit and decided to create a texturepack that makes the game look like a new Zebes. Monsters, weapons, the player, items, tools, the whole thing suddenly became a new mission. The Galactic Federation dispatched a small team to Mikesword’s research facility to help with development. The brave crew concisted of Flag-bearer Merkurlicht, Biologist ChronoSquares and Poet DrWhoCares.Sadly, in a post-Halloween raid by the Space Pirates, Mikesword’s vessel was lost.
The Galactic Federation quickly sent in a replacement squad, consisting of First Lieutenant Dr_Tizzle and Equipment Specialist and Biologist Dr_Jones. They quickly assessed the damage and began to search for survivors. Sadly only DrWhoCares’ ghost could be found, appearing out of nowhere now and then… Unlike his Chozo brethren though, he helps out rather than try to destroy the survivors.
Construction on the pack continued and the new team worked hard, bringing it closer to completion step by step each day. The update for beta 1.2 was their first milestone. Over time, the harsh conditions took their toll on the crew and Dr_Jones had to take leave. Fortunately, Radio Operator Faziri was sent to the lieutenant’s aid and development steamed on.
Minetroid, as the pack is called, is not quite finished yet. About 72% of items have been found, but the developers will continue to keep the pack up to date with Minecraft. It’s currently fully compatible with Beta 1.7 and it keeps getting better, as you can see in this “gallery screenshot”, a typical image used to show how complete a texturepack is.

“Samus Aran in Varia Suit. Digital painting, done entirely in Photoshop with a Bamboo graphics tablet.”
The great artist tomgiest redraw the pixels that make the original pixel art of Samus and within each “pixel box” rendered his interpretation of what should be in that pixel. He says this is not finished, but I think it looks pretty cool already! I’m happy he used my pictures for Samus’ face reference. :)
